But until the moment when Apple’s Augmented Reality devices officially arrive, we will have to wait a few more years, but now we know it will The Information that Apple has just taken a step forward in the development of special semitransparent lenses, moving from the prototyping phase to the test product creation phase.
These lenses will be very special lenses, according to one of the anonymous sources cited by the publication, since they are composed of multiple extremely thin layers, a laborious and complex process due to the use of synthetic materials susceptible to imperfections, and its manufacture must be carried out in dust-free areas, also known as clean rooms. This fact also generates that these lenses are somewhat thicker than those worn by conventional glasses.
The development of these lenses is being carried out in collaboration with Foxconn at its factory located in southwest China, the same where iPads are currently manufactured, since 2018, also coinciding with the year of acquisition of Akonia Holographics, a company specialized in the manufacture of liquid crystal for silicon displays, by Apple.
For now, it is not known if the new lenses will go first to an Augmented Reality headset or will go directly to the expected Augmented Reality glasses, it is expected that they may be available shortly after, by the year 2023.
