Cheap mobiles can have 5G thanks to this new processor

Qualcomm introduces its new 5G chip, the Snapdragon 690, the first in the 6 series to support 5G, although it only supports the slower sub-6GHz versions of 5G, not the fastest standard.

This new chip offers 20% better CPU performance than other 6 series, and 60% faster graphics rendering compared to the Snapdragon 675, and can be used in cheaper mobiles.

Qualcomm’s 6-series chips tend to be in the mid-to-low range of mobiles. Clear examples are the Moto G Fast and the Moto E, for example, although they can also be found in other brands, such as LG. We are talking about phones that cost less than $ 200, so the jump is important: until now 5G was limited only to Qualcomm’s top-tier 8-series chips (such as the Snapdragon 865) and the semi-Snapdragon 765 and 768G. -premium.

It will take a while for manufacturers to use this new Snapdragon 690, but it is a first step so that 5G networks can reach everyone, not just those who have a huge budget to buy a new mobile.

In addition to 5G, the Snapdragon 690 will support 120Hz displays for faster refresh rates, along with 4K HDR video capture. The Snapdragon 690 will also allow cameras up to 192 megapixels on mid-tier devices.

Now it is up to the manufacturers to make a move, although it is necessary that the networks be effectively global, that they guarantee their two main basic premises (speed and low latency) and that they have affordable prices.
