To prevent fraud and minimize malicious use of the Facebook name and product names, Facebook has filed a lawsuit in Virginia against 12 domain names registered by India-based proxy service Compsys Domain Solutions Private Ltd., which They were designed to fool people by impersonating their family of apps.
We are talking about domains like facebook-verify-inc.com, instagramhjack.com or videocall-whatsapp.com, names that can make people confuse thinking that they are official services, which can result in the download of malware , viruses or the theft of personal information when filling in forms where you should not.
Since Facebook indicates that they frequently examine the Internet to find domain names and applications that infringe their trademarks, although it is clear that between the time that passes from the creation of the domain to the elimination of it, many people may have fallen into the trap.
In their note they state that they filed the lawsuit after contacting Compsys about these domain names and receiving no response.
They also comment that registrars and proxy services have a responsibility to remove deceptive and malicious websites. It is not the first time they have filed lawsuits of this type, they also did it against Namecheap and OnlineNIC.
Although the great ones take these measures, it is important that, from our side, we always take care when accessing a website that pretends to be another, although it is not always easy to do so.
