Google, Gmail, Google Meet and others will be faster in Spain in 2022

They comment from Google that 98% of Internet traffic between countries around the world circulates under the sea, which is why it is important to continue betting on the cables that connect countries at the speed of light.

Now they announce a new cable, Grace Hopper, which will connect the United States with the United Kingdom and Spain (in Bilbao), which will help to have more resources and better support for Google products, both for companies and consumers.

There are already two cables of private companies with a circuit between continents, Curie, Dunant and Equiano, cables that help define security strategies without relying on the traditional Internet, since they manage to perform less visible operations by having more control of the points through the information circulates.

It is the first route to Spain, integrating the next Google Cloud region in Madrid into the Google infrastructure. In this video you can see the details:

This cable will consist of 32 fibers, and we will see it ready in 2022. Construction will be the responsibility of SubCom, based in Eatontown, and will have fiber optic switching, a technology that improves the reliability of global communications. It will be the world’s first submarine cable to use switching, helping to redefine traffic when there are outages.
