Google Maps has many features dedicated to helping users discover new places and obtain information.
And part of this dynamic works thanks to the contributions of the Local Guides. They are those users who share ratings, reviews, add sites, answer questions, etc. Each of them has a profile with all their contributions, and now the option to follow them is added.
Yes, you can follow users with a public profile who make contributions on Google Maps. This option started as a pilot test last year, and is now extended to all users.
It is an interesting idea, since many users are committed to sharing experiences on Google Maps, so they are a reliable source to have as references. Or if we plan to travel to a certain place, we can follow users who share recommendations from those areas so as not to lose any of their updates.
How can you follow them? When you find a photo, review, or contribution that you find significant to your experience, look for the author’s name. This will take you to your profile along with all the contributions made on Google Maps and the option to Follow.
And to make it easy to view all the content in user profiles, Google Maps adds filters. These allow you to know at a glance what type of contributions the user makes, for example, if they like vegetarian food, if they share photos of certain places, etc.
Of course, all that dynamics will be available only in public profiles. All the data related to the profile can be modified from the Settings of the Google Maps app, so you can change the status of your profile according to your preferences.
