Google Maps will introduce more than 100 new functionalities, including AR navigation for Interiors

Google Maps has decided to include Artificial Intelligence even more within its core, and as a consequence we will see more than 100 new features this year, with some more relevant than others.

In a post from a few hours ago, he shows some of the most important ones, including Augmented Reality navigation in indoor environments.

Google Maps users have already used Live View, the arrows that appear on the screen to orient ourselves in the streets of a city. What they want is to bring that function to airports, shopping malls and other venues where it is easy to get lost.

With the name of Indoor Live View, take users to lifts, platforms, baggage lanes, toilets and other places of regular use.

Indoor Live View is already available for Android and iOS in some cities in the United States, and in a few months they will also do so in some centers of Tokyo and Zrich, gradually expanding to other cities.

They also speak of the new weather layer, from where we can check the temperature and weather conditions of any place at any time. We may even see a new layer of air quality, made possible by a partnership with companies like The Weather Company, AirNow.gov, and the Central Pollution Board.

We will see this function in the coming months on Android and iOS. The weather layer will be available worldwide, while the air quality layer will launch first in Australia, India and the US.

They are also working on the definition of routes that use less fuel, and for this they will analyze from slopes to road traffic congestion. In a short time Google Maps will suggest by default the route with the lowest carbon footprint, but it will only do so if the arrival time is similar to the fastest, giving option at all times to choose.

The ecological routes They will be released in the US, on Android and iOS, later this year.

In this sense they are also working on a warning systems that help drivers to know if they are entering a low emission zone, something that we will be able to have in June in Germany, the Netherlands, France, Spain and the United Kingdom for Android and iOS.

Regarding sustainable mobility, we will have a complete view of all the routes and modes of transport available, being possible to choose and compare between car, public transport or bicycle, without having to change several tabs. If we frequently choose a mode, in the next suggestions remember that mode, adapting the platform to each user. This feature will be rolling out worldwide in the coming months, on Android and iOS.

You can see animations of these functions in this Google article.
