With 40,000 new mobile applications per month and almost 30 million users in Spain, it is clear that the revolution of these platforms is consolidated. There are great things that can be done from a mobile phone, and even more if several users connect to propose changes within cities.
With this idea in mind Google, together with apps4Citizens, is organizing Go App, a contest in which some municipalities and regional governments of our country will be working for the next few months.
The idea is that various institutions can offer tools and data so that people can provide solutions to social problems, and these solutions should be given by creating mobile apps. The municipalities will define the challenges for their city or region, and the participants will have to create their proposal and present it to a specialized jury.
Today the challenge of Madrid begins, a challenge that will end on June 22, as we see on its website, goapp.apps4citizens.org. In this case the objective is clear:
[…] Define technological solutions in a mobile format that allow citizens to make decisions in their daily lives that help lower / compensate the pollution rates in the city and, thereby, contribute to the fight against global climate change.
The finalists will each receive a prize of 5,000 euros, and will have to defend it in Brussels. At the end of the year, the winner will be decided among all the finalists in the participating cities, and they will be awarded a trip to Google's headquarters in California.
Great projects can be born from this initiative. We'll be alert.
