Google tries to compete with WhatsApp by bringing new functions to Messages

Much has been said about the expansion of the RCS messaging at a global level, but at the moment it is not reaching users, despite its wide availability. In this sense, Google has officially presented both the new features and others recently introduced in the Messages application, one of the few options currently available to use RCS messaging.

The most striking is the launching message reactions using emojis, a function that is also present in Messenger (from FB), Signal or Twitter direct messages, among other platforms, by which users can express their emotions in each message by selecting emojis.

During last May, the first signs of the launch of this function arrived, which from today begins to be official and that you will only have to click on each message to obtain a pop-up window to select one of the available reaction emojis.

This function is available for both text, photo and video messages received through RCS messaging.

In addition, Messages for Android will also offer those who have smart reply suggestions activated some animated sticker suggestions to enter the conversation, being available for the moment in English.

Google also refers to basic image editor to make modifications to the images you want to share, even being able to start from a photograph taken with the application itself. It should be noted that it is a basic image editor with the most elementary functions to which the company accustoms us in its different applications.

And although it is already possible to send voice message, it is now possible to create them in a similar way to WhatsApp, that is, holding down the microphone button for a long time while you are commenting on all those you want to communicate.

And finally, the users They can switch from text conversations to face-to-face video calls with Google Duo integration. To do this, they simply have to touch the video call icon, available in the upper right corner of the application.

We do not know if these functions will encourage users to use the RCS messaging, despite the numerous drops that are taking place recently in the popular WhatsApp messaging service, and that this time we are not talking about a service in which users should register, since it is enough to have an Android phone, a telecommunications operator (or Google itself) that has already enabled RCS messaging, and enable it in the application.
