Gmail already allows on its website and in the android app to activate the chat and rooms sections to avoid having to make more clicks than strictly necessary.
This feature was already available to its business users and Google will now make the integrated workspace feature available to personal account holders as well.
There are four new tabs so that all the work can be done on one page, at the moment only for the web and android versions, no iOS.
After the section is activated, both the web page and the Android application show four new tabs: Mail, Chat, Meeting and Rooms:
– Chat: to hold conversations with one or more users. – Rooms: work environments where we can chat, share files and tasks. – Meetings: For Google Meet (videoconference).
Once a user activates this setting in their accounts, it will be visible in the bottom bar of the Android application. In the Gmail web client, the sidebar with sections will appear on the side of the screen by default and can be hidden by clicking the arrow icon.
How to activate the new tabs in Gmail
On Android, go to Settings> Personal Gmail account> General> Chat (early access)> Test. The application will restart and offer a tutorial on how to use the new function. If you have the separate Google Chat app, it will also instruct you to turn off notifications.
On the web page, users should go to Settings> All Settings> Chat & Meeting> Google Chat (Early Access)> Save Changes.
