Instagram tests new tool to raise funds for personal causes

Instagram continues to expand its donation functions for different causes, now targeting personal causes with the launch of a new tool for personal fundraising, which will initially be available as small trial within the United States, United Kingdom and Ireland.

In these markets, users who can make donations for the personal causes of others through their corresponding sticker, may in turn be fundraisers for their own personal causes.

The social platform points out that to create a personal fundraiser you must have at least 18 years of age, Y All fundraisers that are created will previously go through a review process prior to approval.

To create a personal fundraiser, users should tap Edit Profile, then select Add Fundraiser, and then Raise Money. In addition, they must choose a photo, select a category, and finally provide the details with which to try to convince other users to donate funds for their personal cause.

The next step will be to provide your information to Stripe, to be the processor of payment of donations, and once finished, press Submit to submit the created fundraiser for review. Upon approval, users will be able to start receiving donations from others.

Fundraisers will last in principle 30 days, with the possibility of expanding the period of availability as many times as it is needed. Instagram notes that donors may choose to keep their information hidden from the public, and once the fundraiser is complete, the funds obtained will go to the established bank account.

Instagram promises that in the coming months it will expand fundraising in the aforementioned markets, and facilitate that the fundraisers created can be shared in Feeds and Stories.
