Today, an important step in the Freepik Company trajectory has just been taken with the entry of the Swedish investment fund EQT Mid Market Europe (EQT), which will allow this Spanish company, based in Malaga, to have more economic and human resources for its expansion in the United States and in East Asian markets, as well as allowing it to further diversify and expand its offer of visual content.
Once the operation is closed, for which the approval of the European competition authorities is necessary, the Swedish investment fund will remain as majority owner of the company, while its three founders, Alejandro Snchez, Pablo Blanes and Joaqun Cuenca, will remain with a minority participation, although they will continue to be responsible for its strategic management and international development.
With ten years behind him, Freepik Company is one of the most outstanding technology companies in Spain in recent years, specialized in the development and distribution of graphic resources through Freepik, Flaticon and Slidesgo, currently having some 32 million users, more than 10 million graphic resources, and with an average of 110 million monthly downloads, according to the company, which has also highlighted that 20% of its 233 current workers have joined during the current pandemic situation.
EQT is a major global investment fund with a 26-year track record betting on the development of companies in the technology sector under the premises of sustainable growth, operational excellence and leadership position in the market for each of them.
According to Joaqun Cuenca, one of the co-founders of the company:
We started this process by looking for the best partner, and EQT has proven itself to be that again and again. We have met in person on only one occasion, just before the confinement in Spain, and they knew how to adapt quickly to the situation, bringing together an impressive number of advisers in a very short time to face this process. We want to expand in the US market and in East Asian markets, and we know that the reach of EQT’s expertise in search engines, AI and marketing will be key to penetrate them.
