Pokémon Go is updated to be able to play from home

Going out to hunt pokmons is not a good idea at the moment, although there have already been reports of people who have skipped the quarantine precisely to play Pokmon Go.

Now Niantic said it is updating its games, such as Pokmon Go and Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, so they can record their indoor activity and link it to the game's goals.

CEO John Hanke said in a publication that Niantic acknowledges that they are facing an unprecedented challenge due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the increased physical and mental strain it is causing. Her games are designed to get people out to exercise and explore the world, something that doesn't make sense these weeks.

It indicates that they have always believed that their games can include elements in interiors that complement the exterior.

Now is the time to prioritize this work, with the key challenge of making playing indoors as exciting and innovative as our outdoor play.

Hanke said the company is adding features so it can allow more ways to play in and around the house in the coming days and weeks.

On the one hand we can follow the steps indoors with Adventure Sync so that activities such as cleaning the house and running on a treadmill count towards the achievements of the game. Niantic make improvements to Adventure Sync to make it work even better with indoor activities and movements.

It is also enhancing virtual social features in the game to allow players to stay in touch when they can't meet in real life. Soon we'll be able to team up with friends and take on Raid Battles together in Pokmon Go from the comfort of home.

The company is also looking at how to help players visit and virtually share memories of their favorite real-world places, until we can visit them again in person.

You are also reimagining what it means to participate in a live event. We will see it at Pokmon Go Fest this summer.

Finally they have launched a new form of game in Pokmon Go called Go Battle League so that we can play from anywhere in the world, even at home, reducing the requirements to walk from 3 km to zero. In Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, Niantic has increased the amount of content that is nearby on the map, so that players can view the content from home.

Without a doubt, a great challenge.
