In addition to the proprietary fast charging technologies that different phone manufacturers, such as Oppo, among others, are developing to bring their models, and that have already managed to exceed the 100W milestone to enable a full battery charge in less half an hour, Qualcomm now arrives with the official presentation of Quick Charge 5, promising to fully charge phones with a 4,500 mAh battery in about fifteen minutes, and even half in just five minutes.
The company claims that its new fast charging standard of over 100 W is four times faster and 70% more efficient than the previous standard, Quick Charge 4, and offers ten times the energy offered by the standard Quick Charge 1.
It also promises that the new standard heats up to 10 degrees cooler than Quick Charge 4 and is safer, for which, it has 12 separate protections for voltage, current and temperature, in addition to the protection against overvoltage of the USB input at 25 V, and power controls of more than 30 V.
The most interesting thing is knowing which will be the first devices to have the new fast charging standard. In this regard, the company indicates that it will appear on mobile devices that arrive throughout the third quarter of this year (that is, practically throughout this summer), being compatible with models that integrate the 865, 865 Plus and subsequent generations of processors for high-end mobile devices premium, and also carry the latest generation power drivers, Qualcomm SMB1396 and Qualcomm SMB1398, which were also released today.
Finally, indicate that Quick Charge 5 is compatible with 2S batteries (stacked), includes the new Intelligent Identification of adapter capacities system to make current, power and voltage adjustments depending on the charger used, and is backward compatible with the 2.0, 3.0, 4 and 4+ standards.
One of the first companies to have Qualcomm’s new fast charging standard is Xiaomi, with which it maintains good business relationships.
