It is not that the laptops enter any mystery since they are an everyday object of universities, coffeemakers and many houses, but there is no doubt that there are brands that arouse more interest than others precisely for those types of devices. One of them is Xiaomi, a manufacturer widely known for its smartphones that finally brought its laptop to Spain. And I have thoroughly tested it.
I am used to the quality of the brand in Android phones, also in all its selection of accessories that I have been adding to my daily routine. Xiaomi’s laptop, a compact computer with an aluminum exterior and a 13.3-inch screen, was the last to reach my home. I had my doubts about whether I could replace my computer when working, editing photography and offering entertainment, but these doubts soon dissipated: the My Laptop Air 13.3, full name of the computer, falls in love at first glance and convinces after a couple of hours being with him.
Obviously, it has its drawbacks and drawbacks. Perhaps something small for some, a copy of the MacBook Pro for others, also more limited in battery life than the 9.5 hours of autonomy that the brand ensures. All this is diluted by the benefits, the finishes and also by the cost: with the 899 euros which is worth maintains an excellent quality / price ratio.
As necessary, go step by step narrating my experience with the Xiaomi Mi laptop Air 13.3. I have to thank PC Components for giving it to me for testing: if you like the model, and want to buy it, my recommendation is that you do it through their store.

Features of Xiaomi Mi laptop Air 13.3 laptop
Despite the contained dimensions, its low weight and its reduced thickness, this notebook offers hardware with plenty of power. According to my tests, the same serves to use it as a gaming laptop (with certain limitations) as for sSupport from mobile office support. It is also a great computer to use as a multimedia center; although at this point the screen may become somewhat small.

Quality construction with aluminum as the dominant material
As I said before, this notebook does not obviate the similarities with Apple’s Mac Book Pro. The construction is of great quality, also the use of aluminum is outstanding. The color is a dark gray, much more than it seems in the photos. It is very well used by the keyboard, it offers a trackpad not too big but it is enough and, as a negative note, the hinge offers less resistance than it should. It goes too smooth; which gives a certain feeling of insecurity (without seeming to break).
The similarities with the Mac Book Pro not only affect the design of the laptop itself, but also the box where it is packed for transport. Well protected, and with a fast USB Type-C charger as the only accessory, the Xiaomi Mi Laptop Air surprises with the content of the proposal. Also nothing else to open the screen for the first time: it is lifted just by pulling the panel, no need to grab the computer. To this contributes the softness of the hinge, as I commented.
The screen frames are very small and with my logo at the bottom as the only mark of the entire laptop. In the keyboard area it takes up most of the space; leaving room for the trackpad protected by glass with an opening in the upper right through which the fingerprint sensor is accessed. As I said, the size of the trackpad becomes somewhat fair, but it is more than valid to use the computer, also to run the Windows 10 gestures.
The keys are generous in size and maintain adequate spacing: they are suitable for writing both short and long texts. The tour is not too deep without a bad feeling. They feel comfortable under the fingers and they offer just the right resistance. I also appreciate them for quality: although I have not been with the Xiaomi Mi Laptop Air for the necessary time, I find the keys durable enough.
Writing with this laptop is very comfortable, even in long texts
The edges of the aluminum are straight and at the bottom offer a certain burr. Around the contour of the laptop we find a USB 3.0 port on each side and a USB type C on the right side (for charging and for data). In addition, it has HDMI output on the left side and does not dispense with a headphone portIt cannot be said that it is overflowing with connections, but at least it is not fair either.
In the lower part you can see the ventilation slots and the screws to remove the cover that gives access to the ins and outs of the laptop. The 13.3-inch Xiaomi Mi Laptop Air allows the storage expansion thanks to an SSD expansion slot.
More than enough power for any task, even demanding games
Using the Xiaomi laptop is a joy: nothing chokes you, not office applications or zillion open Google Chrome tabs. Operation is fast and fluid at all times with the only downside that with intensive use the fan is very persistent. The equipment gets quite hot, always bearing in mind that these days the temperature is being high.
The laptop gets quite hot even though the fan is effective
The protagonist in terms of power is the integrated processor: the eighth generation Intel i5, with core Kaby Lake(6 MB cache and up to 3.40 GHz). This processor guarantees the life of the laptop for a few years, the construction also comes with it. Although that is, the 8 GB of RAM can be somewhat short.
Accompanying the processor, the 13.3-inch Xiaomi Laptop Air laptop has a dedicated graphics card that, while not the top in terms of graphics performance, does offer enough power to boot many of today’s games with sufficient quality. This contrasts with the very compressed size of the computer, its versatility surprises. The screen is somewhat small to play and theNvidiaMX150 (2 GB DDR5) It makes the laptop rise in temperature a lot, these will be two of its drawbacks.
Integrated graphics card offers enough power to start games in high quality
It said that the Xiaomi Laptop Air 13.3 can handle demanding games. I was testing various titles, like the Fortnite with the maximum requirements, and the main computer of the analysis was able to cope with them. At maximum performance the framerate is somewhat low, but placing the requirements at a lower level everything works without problems. In short: it is not a portable to play, but won’t give you bad experience on homework. And it has direct HDMI output to connect the Laptop to a TV or monitor.
Very good screen and with small frames
The screen of the Xiaomi Mi Laptop Air 13.3 offers just that diagonal: 13.3 inch. The ratio is 16: 9, the resolution remains in Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels), it has an 800: 1 contrast and offers 300 nits of brightness. The viewing angles are very good, the sharpness is also at an excellent level and with a color range that reaches 72% NTSC.
Once the data is left, it is time to talk about the feelings left. The truth is that the screen is appreciated very well in all conditions, even if it is possible work outdoors as long as the light does not shine directly on the LCD panel. It is missed that the panel is tactile, something that would have added an extra to the laptop.
With a Xiaomi panectctile it would have created the almost perfect screen
The frames are minimal and make the screen stand out over almost the entire length of the laptop. The panel unfolds smoothly and allows for an extension of up to 135 (approximately). And the only branding detail is just below the screen: my logo stands out discreetly in silver. In my experience I did not miss a higher resolution.
A battery not as extensive as Xiaomi claims
The key to Xiaomi Mi Laptop Air 13.3 It is its small size and low weight; without these characteristics subtracting power from the set, as outlined in the hardware section. In theory the time out of the socket walked on the side of the positive points, but according to the tests I have to reduce it until I highlight it. It is not that this laptop has a bad battery, but I know that it does not last the 9.5 hours that Xiaomi ensures.
For my tests, and after taking the travel laptop to work on the go (several simultaneous Chrome tabs, Photoshop and WiFi connection) I have not taken more than 5 hours of autonomy, always with medium screen brightness. Switching from browser to Opera I got almost 6 hours; around 3 hours playing Fortnite at high quality (the team warmed up remarkably).
The battery is not mediocre, nor excellent: 5 hours on average are common
I can’t say I have an everlasting battery, but I know it won’t leave you lying around in the middle of the afternoon if you take your laptop away from home. Concert criterion, choosing low performance (the setting can be selected from the battery icon) and reducing applications an average of 6 hours is achieved. The 9.5 hours that Xiaomi comments are too optimistic.
Perfect for multimedia content despite content screen size
With the Xiaomi Mi Laptop Air you can see all kinds of content. The 18: 9 format of the screen accompanies, also the excellent AKG sound which includes the laptop. The quality of the LCD panel allows viewing from movies to series; leaving out the HDR playback, a detail that would not have been wrong to include.
Aside from the sound, this computer includes dual band WiFi and Bluetooth 4.1 as wireless connections. It allows charging through its USB C port in addition to being used as a data connection; which is complemented by two USB-A 3.0 and an HDMI output. In addition, the Xiaomi Mi Laptop Air offers 3.5mm jack so you can connect headphones.
You will not find a version of Windows loaded with applications: Xiaomi does not include its own apps, but details such as the audio manager or the Nvidia card, for example. Windows 10 Home is included in the laptop, not the Office tools (you can try them for a month).
The fingerprint reader included in the trackpad is another of the remarkable elements. It facilitates the security of Windows Hello with a simple touch: reading is fast and precise; with a system unlock in less than a second. S takes some space out of gestures, but it’s not too much of a hassle: fingers don’t usually go over the reader when scrolling through desktops or scrolling through pages.
This is what I like most about the Xiaomi Mi Laptop Air
After several weeks with him Xiaomi Mi Laptop Air 13.3 I must say that I did not miss my personal and work laptop, a 15-inch MacBook Pro. The size of the panel seemed a little small to me just after starting the change, but I have to say that one gets used to the dimensions quickly. Also to the whole group: having such a powerful computer in such a small space is a joy.
Here are some more favorable impressions about the computer:
- It is a laptop of excellent construction that surprises with its appearance and size.
- It hardly weighs in my backpack, something I especially appreciate since I always carry my work with me.
- It is very powerful despite the fact that it does not reach the benefits of a team for gamers. This is a sample of the versatility of the team.
- Xiaomi does not customize anything on the computer: it includes clean and Spanish Windows 10.
- The keyboard offers very good typing sensations and is not small. Includes the.
- The trackpad transmits a very good feeling. And gestures are comfortable to perform.
- The extra security provided by the fingerprint sensor on the trackpad is appreciated.
- The aluminum construction is noteworthy: quality and with the premium feel the laptop deserves.
- The price-performance ratio of the notebook is as high as that offered by Xiaomi on smartphones.
And this is what I like least
The balance opts on the positive side without thereby lacking negative points. After weeks of use this is what I liked least about Xiaomi Mi Laptop Air 13.3.
- The 8GB of RAM falls a bit short when multiple apps (or a multitude of Google Chrome tabs) are opened.
- It would be nice if the screen was touch.
- The battery life is not as long as Xiaomi claims, at least with regular use.
- The trackpad is a little small.
- With somewhat intensive use it gets too hot.
- The keys have no backlight level, only off and on.
It is a 100% recommended laptop for all types of users. Very good to get the home office out, especially for its reduced weight and dimensions. It is valid to play without excessive pretensions, the processor is of the latest generation, the power surprises despite how small it is. I am an intensive computer user due to my work, and I have to say that this laptop more than met what I expected. . Even I exceeded my expectations.
