Just a few days ago Vodafone announced the arrival of 5G in Spain; which some of its clients can already enjoy since last June 15. Now, it has been RTVE who has given the surprise after making the first 5G TV connection in Spain and being the first broadcast in the world with a native 5G network.
The first TV connection in Spain with 5G
RTVE (Radiotelevisin Espaola) has taken its first steps with 5G this Wednesday according to a press release from the public entity. The entity has made this first TV connection with live 5Gfrom Valencia and during the test it has successfully issued the territorial news RTVE of Castilla La Mancha and the Valencian Community.
To carry out the broadcast, an HD camera directly connected to an access point was used, which in turn was connected to a 5G NR station located near the Valencia Conference Center. The content has been broadcast on the occasion of the EuCNC2019 technology fair and the 7th Global 5G Event. Thus, the first 5G TV connection in our country is constitutionalized.
First broadcast in the world with a native 5G network
The RTVE broadcast was also the first in the world to employ a native / pure 5G network; the Spanish translation of the term stand-alone (SA). All the tests that have been done so far used the first version of the non-stand alone standard or NSA.
The use of the SA network is of great relevance, since these networks will be those that allow us to take advantage of the full potential of 5G; unlike the NSAs. Specifically, we are referring to very low latency and high reliability of transmissions.
The RTVE test has been made possible thanks to the collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Valencia, Fenitel, WATCHITY, Cellnex, Orange and ZTE. Both broadcasts have been shown on television and on the video walls installed in the Valencia Conference Center.
