While 5G connectivity is having a hard time getting started, basically because operators still have to amortize 3G and 4G networks before seriously getting into so-called next-generation connectivity, Samsung already sees a future scenario in which 5G technology will become obsolete. before a model of society and technological advances that require even much higher speeds.
The company has shared a document, through the Advanced Communications Research Center, in which it shows its vision of what 6G connectivity should look like for the societies of the future. Samsung believes that it is never early to prepare for 6G connectivity due to the time that elapses from the beginning of the investigations until the commercialization of the new technology, setting the horizon for the deployment of 6G by the year 2030.
For the company, 6G connectivity should have a peak speed of 1000 Gbps with a latency of 100 s, which represents a speed 50 times higher and a latency 10 times lower than 5G connectivity. At the user level, it will also mean a lower latency and a significantly lower failure rate, which would allow its application in considerable areas as sensitive to latencies.
But Samsung goes further and sees a scenario with a significant implementation of extended reality in which 5G connectivity falls short of the need for high speeds for virtual reality, augmented reality and mixed reality services, even offering images at 16K resolution.
But even 6G connectivity will serve to display trustworthy holograms of people, objects and places, where Samsung believes this technology will become commonplace in about ten years.
And if there could be a problem with connectivity, Samsung is committed to integrating Artificial Intelligence capabilities that can solve them at the infrastructure level. Everything sounds quite futuristic, and may lead to the development of new technologies that allow 6G connectivity to become a future reality.
But in the absence of a clear standard, we still have to wait, taking into account that it will begin in the study phase next year, and that there are also other manufacturers that are also interested in venturing into this new connectivity.
