Telegram is testing video calls on iOS

Video calls are a pending subject on Telegram. While it has many features that keep users happy, video calls are lacking to complete the feature kit of the most popular services.

However, this may change in the near future. As some users have mentioned, Telegram is already testing video calling in the beta version on iOS as one of its experimental features.

One user shared on Reddit what the experimental video calling feature looks like in the Telegram app. The option to start a video call is integrated into the profile along with the rest of the basic functions of the application, so it is only a matter of one click to start a virtual meeting with a friend or say hello to your grandmother. In the trial version it is only possible to start a 1 to 1 video call, and there is no trace of an option for group video calls.

It has the basic options to manage a video call, such as change camera, mute the microphone or end the meeting. Keep in mind that this is only part of a test in one of its most preliminary versions, so there is still a long way to go until it is officially released.

The Telegram team announced in April that it was working to offer group video calls this year. They put special emphasis on mentioning that they are focused on developing a video calling function that combines usability and security. A comment that is understood in the context of the repeated security problems that some popular applications have had.

So we just have to wait to see if there are signs of video calls in the next beta version of the application. And of course, hope that the tests will also extend to the beta version of Android.
