TikTok adds more controls to manage comments

TikTok is implementing new measures to eradicate harassment on the platform.

Not only does it give users more control over the comments to allow on their posts, but it also adds a dynamic to make users aware of the type of conversation that you are generating on the platform.

More controls for comments on TikTok

One of the features added to TikTok gives users more control over the comments that land on their posts. A new option that is combined with the rest of the functions dedicated to comment moderation within Comment Filters, being this way:

  • New comments are hidden until the user decides to delete or allow them in the publication
  • Hide comments that TikTok qualifies as offensive or spam until the user approves them
  • Use certain keywords to filter comments that will be automatically hidden until deleted or approved

So users can use any of the filters to keep their posts free from offensive, inappropriate or spam comments, without having to expose themselves to them publicly.

And on the other hand, TikTok wants users to be aware of the type of comments they leave on publications. Following the same dynamics that we already found on Twitter, when it detects that a user is writing an offensive comment, TikTok will show a warning and the option to edit its text.

This slap on the wrist will give users a second chance to reconsider the message they want to express and change the comment. So far it works as a suggestion, so it does not prevent the user from continuing with the publication of the comment.

All these changes are already being implemented in the TikTok app, both on iOS and Android.
