US will allow US companies to work with Huawei on 5G development

Huawei is a leader in 5G technology and infrastructure, so it becomes an inevitable partner for those who want to shape the future of 5G. But the US eliminated this possibility from US companies with its repeated vetoes and restrictions on Huawei.

However, this panorama is about to change. The United States Department of Commerce has released a statement suggesting a new position with its relationship with Huawei so that American companies do not lose competitiveness, and especially that the United States does not risk losing leadership in the future of 5G.

Specifically, the United States will allow US technology companies that are capable of developing 5G infrastructure to have some collaboration with Huawei. As the statement mentions, this rule, still pending approval, wants to ensure that the Huawei veto does not prevent companies from collaborating in the development of standards for 5G networks.

The statement does not specify that it includes this type of collaboration, and how extensive is this permission that the United States could grant to technology companies in the country. To reinforce the weight of this rule, the statement uses expressions such as global innovation leadership that the United States is not willing to give up, and the importance of protecting economic and national security.

For this change in strategy to take effect, it must be approved by the United States Federal Register. We have already seen how the United States government has been modifying its decisions regarding Huawei, so we will have to wait to see how much to give in this opportunity.
