YouTube is working on a new feature to compete with TikTok

YouTube is preparing a new feature to create short videos from the app.

It seems that YouTube has not resisted the temptation and joins the series of services that imitate the dynamics of TikTok. This new feature will be called Shorts and will be integrated into both the app for iOS and Android.

Not too much information about this feature is known yet, nor when will it be available to users, as mentioned in The Information. But there are some details that have been leaked, for example, a bonus that YouTube will offer to users who try these short videos is that it will make it easier for them to add sounds or a musical background thanks to its audio library.

The good thing about this strategy is that YouTube does not intend to launch it as an independent app, as Instagram is used to, which provides multiple related apps to users. YouTube only wants to enhance its own dynamics, as it did at the time with the integration of the Stories.

So the user will not have to deal with another app to create these short videos and then send them to YouTube. You just need to record it with the mobile camera, do some basic editing (like adding music) and you're done. And just as simple would be the dynamic for those who just want to enjoy these videos that other users upload. They just have to enter the Shorts section and pass the videos like any other content.

While YouTube seems to be running late to this trend that has long been raging among young users, it could be a way to refresh the audience and keep them longer in the app. For now, we will have to wait since this new YouTube feature would not be available until the end of 2020.
